Nicole Junkermann on Captioning a Sports Photo
A sports photograph can carry a whole story in a single frame. In this short video, Nicole Junkermann explains how AI can help draft a short caption, and why the words still need checking against what the picture actually shows.

A sports photo can tell a story. AI can help draft a short caption. Check what the photo shows, and keep the words true.
Three key points
- A sports photo can tell a story on its own.
- AI can help draft a short caption quickly.
- Checking the picture keeps the words true.
Short words, carefully checked
Captions are among the shortest pieces of writing anyone produces, and among the most widely read. A line under a photograph is often all a reader takes in, so it has to be accurate. Nicole Junkermann sees AI as a handy way to produce a first draft, especially when there are many pictures to describe. The draft is only a starting point, though. Who is in the frame, what moment it captures and what the picture leaves out are all things a person needs to confirm before the words go out. It is the same discipline that good writing has always asked for: say less, check more, and never let a neat phrase run ahead of the facts.
